One of the most amazing things about God is trying to grasp His greatness and magnitude. When we surrender our lives to Him we cannot fathom what that actually means. We see examples in the Bible of what it means. We read the words of the New Testament to see what it means. We have the feeling of joy, peace, and assurance. Yet, we will not know what it means until we are actually in the presence of the Living God.
Our limited minds and our limited experiences are just that limited. God is not limited.
Prayer
Lord of all, thank You for Your amazing loving-kindness. May we thankful for who You are and what You have done for us.

The saying, “money is the root of all evil” is one of the misquoted parts of the Bible. This phrase has been adapted and adopted to fit into all kinds of political and social movements over the centuries. Lack of actual Bible study and the preponderance of the idea that people with money are inherently evil help to perpetuate this myth. The actual saying has three little words that completely change the complexion of the phrase, “the love of. . . .”
This verse, and many others in the Bible, advise us to stay away from the love of money. Further, this verse tells us what we should already know - God takes care of us.
The love of money makes us selfish. It makes us dependent on getting more. We get caught up in the commercialism of I must always have the next newest thing. Many people live this way. In his book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert T. Kiyosaki talks about his actual dad and the dad of his best friend and how their attitude toward finances shaped his life. Whether he knows it or not, Kiyosaki is actually propounding a Biblical style of money management.
Money is a tool, like any other tool we use. It is not a god, nor should it ever become a god. Being content with what we have is becoming a thing of the past. That does not mean that you keep your worn-out shoes for 40 years though - what it does mean is don’t go chasing after the newest thing.
God takes care of us. When we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, we become God’s. Not only have we given ourselves over as his property, but God has also taken the further step of adopting us as His children. That is the assurance we have. The knowledge that we are children of the King!
Prayer
Father God, thank You for your great love, mercy and grace. Help us to be content with where we are. There is some reason that You have brought us to this place. When it is our time to move, You will move us. Help us to always seek You. Thank You for always being there for us.

Nous lisons toutes les épreuves et tribulations ainsi que les victoires et les grands exploits de l'Ancien Testament afin de faire l'expérience de Dieu par procuration. Ensuite, lorsque nous faisons personnellement l'expérience de Dieu, nous avons un point de référence pour dire que c'est réellement Dieu qui travaille !
Comme Paul le soulignera à un autre moment, l'Ancien Testament indique la venue du Christ. Nous devons lire l'Ancien Testament pour mieux comprendre qui est Dieu et ce qu'il a fait par Jésus-Christ. Il est là pour nous aider à avoir une compréhension plus profonde et pour nous aider à nous rapprocher de Dieu.

Nous te remercions Seigneur pour ta parole. Que nous avons tant de façons d'accéder à la Bible aujourd'hui. In the New Testament writings any time that they reference “the Scriptures” they are talking about the Old Testament. At the time of the writing of the majority of the New Testament, only the Old Testament was available to read and study by the churches.
Many Christians tend to stay away from the Old Testament except for the “good parts” the stories of Genesis (Creation, Noah, the Call of Abraham, Joseph and coat of many colors), Exodus (the life of Moses, the Plagues, Crossing the Red Sea, the Ten Commandments), Judges (Samson and Delilah), 1 and 2 Samuel (the life of King David, Solomon and his many wives), and then a sprinkling of interest in the Psalms and Proverbs and then only passing interest in the prophetic books.
We need to take Paul’s word to heart. The entirety of the Old Testament was written to give us a fuller understanding of who God is, who humanity is, and how God works in history. By studying the Old Testament we get to expand our understanding of who God is. Why He did the things that He did. What, based on that knowledge, God will do in the future.
How can we say that we serve the Living God if we do not seek to know that living God?
The more you read the Old Testament, the more the New Testament begins to become clear. Jesus’ teachings were all from the Old Testament. The authors of the New Testament make multitudinous references to the Old Testament - since it was their only Bible.
We read about all the trials and tribulations as well as the victories and great feats in the Old Testament in order to vicariously experience God. Then when we personally experience God we have a reference point to say this is actually God working!
As Paul will point out at another time, the Old Testament points to the coming of Christ. We need to read the Old Testament to better understand who God is and what He did through Jesus Christ. It is there to help us have a deeper understanding and to help us grow closer to God.
Prayer
We thank You Lord for Your word. That we have so many ways to access the Bible today. That we can not only read and study it, but that we have access to literally thousands of years of notes of others who have studied it. May we delve into the Old Testament to find out what You were doing thousands of years ago. That we may come to understand You better. That You will open our hearts and our minds to see how You love us and have gone through great lengths so that we may have fellowship with You.

Many people who are proclaimed atheists or agnostics are not against God, but against religion. They only know the do’s and don’ts of a religious dogma. They do not actually understand that Christianity is based on a relationship with God. Once a person encounters God their life changes.
Encourage your non-beliving friend to simply read the Gospels. It is highly unlikely that they have ever even picked up a Bible, much less read any of it. What they know of God is what has filtered through the mainstream culture. They base their opinions on not what they know, but on what they think they know.

Dear Lord, You change lives. Help us to point others to You through our lives and actions. Help us to encourage others to experience You first-hand.

There are those who proclaim a false message of Christianity who completely ignore this verse and many others in the New Testament. Jesus never taught that life would be easy, all fun, or full of earthly prosperity. They completely ignore the majority of the book of Acts as well as the portions of the epistles that talk about the trials, tribulations, and persecutions of the followers of Jesus.
When you read the teachings of Jesus along with his confrontations with the religious leaders of his day, you see the strife of living a Kingdom of God life in this world. Paul almost continually writes about how living in this world is difficult, but it is what the true Christian is called to do.
In this verse, Peter is telling us that when we live Kingdom of God values and we strive to live in the will of God we will have difficulties. The good news is that in the grand scheme of things, it is but a short time. God who has called out to us and provided us with a way to have fellowship with Him has promised us that one day we will be made complete. We will be in God’s presence. Filled with God’s peace. We will be made strong, safe, and secure in our heavenly home.
Prayer
Loving Heavenly Father, thank You that Your grace is sufficient for our needs. Thank You for the promise that You will fulfill that we will one day be in Your presence - whole, safe, secure, and experience full joy and peace. Help us to see the big picture that what we are going through now is just a tiny piece of eternity. Help us to know that You are with us. Help us to take comfort and joy in that realization.

Mais dans ces histoires, nous voyons des aperçus comme celui-ci de la façon dont Dieu n'est pas un Dieu tribal ou provincial. Oui, il a fait une alliance avec Abraham, Jacob et Moïse - pourtant il y en a d'autres avec qui Dieu parle. Il y en a d'autres par qui Dieu parle. Nous ne voyons que ce qui est devant nous et nos expériences. Ces aperçus devraient nous rappeler que Dieu est Dieu et que nous ne le sommes pas. Lorsque nous pensons avoir une bonne compréhension de qui est Dieu et de ce que Dieu fait, nous lisons ces récits et voyons que Dieu a un plan plus vaste et que nous ne voyons pas et ne pouvons pas tout voir. Pour moi, c'est très réconfortant. C'est très humiliant.
Dieu est Dieu, et nous ne le sommes pas. Ce que Dieu dit, Dieu le fait. Notre perception de qui est Dieu est basée sur ce que Dieu choisit de nous révéler. La meilleure vue que nous avons de Dieu nous est présentée dans les évangiles - la vie de Jésus-Christ.
Dieu accomplit ses promesses. Cela aussi est un grand réconfort. Nous pouvons compter sur Dieu.

Dieu de l'Univers, Vous travaillez de manière mystérieuse. Nous ne pouvons pas connaître votre esprit ni vos plans. Vous travaillez d'une manière que nous ne voyons que partiellement. Merci car ta parole est éternelle. Merci d'avoir jugé bon de m'appeler pour faire partie de votre plan. Aide-nous à être attentifs à voir comment Tu travailles dans ce monde.
In these chapters of Numbers, we get a peek into what God is doing in the lives of those who are not the chosen people nor the descendants of Abraham. The Moabites are related to the Israelites as both have the same common ancestor Terah (the father of Abraham). In some manner, Balaam has some knowledge of God (Yahweh). Whether it is by either a longer tradition passed down from the line of Terah or since Balaam is some sort of holy man, he is definitely aware of who God is and what God can do. I suggest that you read Numbers Chapters 22-24.
I always find it fascinating when we get glimpses of what God is doing among the nations in the Bible. What we have in the Old Testament is mostly the story of God brought to us through the perspective of the Chosen People - the Israelites. But within these stories we see glimpses like this of how God is not a tribal nor provincial God. Yes, He has made a covenant with Abraham, Jacob, and Moses - yet there are others with whom God speaks. There are others through whom God speaks. We see only what is in front of us and our experiences. These glimpses should remind us that God is God and we are not. When we think we have a good grasp of who God is and what God is doing we read these accounts and see that God has a bigger plan and we do not and cannot see it all. To me, that is very comforting. That is very humbling.
God is God, and we are not. What God says God does. Our perception of who God is is based on what God chooses to reveal to us. The best view that we have gotten of God is presented to us in the Gospels - the life of Jesus Christ.
God fulfills His promises. That, too, is a great comfort. We can rely on God.
Prayer
God of the Universe, You work in mysterious ways. We cannot know Your mind nor Your plans. You work in ways that we only partially see. Thank You that Your word is eternal. Thank You that You see fit to call me to be a part of Your plan. Help us to be attuned to seeing how You are working in this world.

Wamoabi wana uhusiano na Waisraeli kwani wote wawili wana babu sawa Tera (baba ya Ibrahimu). Kwa namna fulani, Balaamu ana ujuzi fulani juu ya Mungu (Yahweh). Ikiwa ni kwa mila ndefu iliyopitishwa kutoka kwa ukoo wa Tera au kwa kuwa Balaamu ni mtu fulani mtakatifu, hakika anafahamu Mungu ni nani na ni nini Mungu anaweza kufanya. Ninashauri kwamba usome Hesabu Sura ya 22-24.
Daima ninavutiwa wakati tunapata maoni ya kile Mungu anafanya kati ya mataifa katika Biblia. Tunayo katika Agano la Kale ni hadithi ya Mungu iliyoletwa kwetu kupitia mtazamo wa Watu Wateule - Waisraeli. Mungu ni Mungu, na sisi sio. Kile Mungu anasema Mungu hufanya. Mtazamo wetu juu ya Mungu ni nani unategemea kile Mungu anachagua kutufunulia. Maoni bora ambayo tumepata kutoka kwa Mungu yanawasilishwa kwetu katika Injili - maisha ya Yesu Kristo.
Mungu hutimiza ahadi zake. Hiyo, pia, ni faraja kubwa. Tunaweza kumtegemea Mungu.
